City Lit’s campaign for lipreading classes “Hear My Lips”

City Lit in London is celebrating 100 years of lipreading teaching!

These valuable classes, now called “Lipreading and Managing Hearing Loss” classes were first set up for veterans returning from the first world war.

City Lit still offer classes specifically for veterans today. Hearing loss has always been a problem in the forces, and if you have ever served, you can get help with the cost of classes from the British Legion.

As part of their lipreading teaching centenary year, City Lit launched their Hear My Lips campaign at a Parliamentary reception, hosted by Jim Fitzpatrick, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on deafness. The Secretary of State for education also spoke at the event.

Grayson Perry is patron on the campaign and they produced this video all about it –
